Acne and Acne Scarring
There are many different grades of acne. The most common form is called acne vulgaris also commonly known as teenage acne. As hormones start changing this causes a stimulation of the sebaceous glands (oil), which produces an overabundance of sebum(oil). In turn we are shedding dead skin cells on a regular basis, but it is found in individuals with acne the dead skin cells build up inside the follicle at a faster rate of speed than they are shed, and mix with sebum and white blood cells and become inflammatory or non-inflammatory lesions. A lot of times this is referred to as retention hyperkeratosis, and is a hereditary condition. Acne can start at any age and occur through adulthood. The good news is acne is a very treatable condition. Chemical Peels are a wonderful option for treating acne and acne scarring. They help to keep the skin cells turning over at a regular rate of speed as well as helping to destroy the bacteria that causes acne. And for deeper acne scarring, the Fractional Laser Resurfacing is the best option.
Rosacea is a condition of the skin that used to be characterized as acne, it is now believed that rosacea is more of a problem with the blood vessels and flushing of the skin. With rosacea the skin turns red very easily, known as flushing. This can result in eventual distended capillaries called telangiectasia’s. Although rosacea can cause acne-like pimples and pustules, the actual disorder is vascular. No one is completely sure of the exact cause of rosacea, but it appears to be hereditary and strongly related to how easily a person blushes. There are many treatment options for rosacea. People with rosacea are advised to avoid sun exposure at all costs. Besides the ultraviolet rays, sun also radiates infrared heat causing flares in rosacea suffers to be worse. Avoid saunas, hot tubs, steam baths due to the intense heat. Spicy foods, wine (especially red wine), other alcoholic beverages, and caffeine, can all cause vasodilation making flushing worse. When exercising be in a very cool, air-conditioned room. One of the best treatment options for rosacea suffers is Photo Rejuvenation.
Sun Damage/ Hyperpigmentation/ Fine Lines and Wrinkles
We all know that sun exposure is the skins worst enemy. Repetitive exposure to the sun causes severe skin damage, premature aging, and skin cancer. The sun projects three basic kinds of ultraviolet rays, or UV rays. UVC rays are short rays that are blocked by the ozone layer. They in large doses are deadly to live creatures. UVB are the next longest ray. UVB rays cause most skin cancers and are responsible for sun burns. UVA rays are the longest rays, causing a break down in collagen and elastin, and possibly altering DNA. When the skin is exposed to UV rays it stimulates our melanocytes, which are our pigment producing cells, that manufacture melanin, the skins pigment that is the body’s natural sunscreen. Many people think a tan is healthy, although a tan is actually a chemical reaction of the body defending itself from these harmful rays. When we keep stimulating and damaging these cells over and over again we start to cause damage, sunspots, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, broken capillaries, fine lines and wrinkles. Today, there are many non-invasive procedures to reverse the damage that have already occurred and to prevent future damage. One of your best defenses is applying a broad spectrum sun block ever day, and if you are exposed to the sun all day reapplying every two hours. Photo Rejuvenation, Microdermabrasion, Chemical Peels, Fractional Laser Resurfacing are all great options for treating these conditions.
Melasma is referred to as a pregnancy mask quit often. It is believed that melasma is caused by hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy, or while taking birth control. Research is also finding it more in women who are going through hormonal changes due to the normal ageing process. The upper lip, cheeks, and forehead are usually the areas that are affected with hyperpigmentation. Sun exposure, can make melasma much worse, so it is advised to stay out of the sun. Photo Rejuvenation, Chemical Peels, Microdermabrasion, Fractional Laser Resurfacing all work well depending on the amount of hyperpigmentation, one might be a better option than another.
Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder. It is and inflammatory disorder of the skin that is caused by the skin and epidermis turning over faster than it does in a normal individual. Largely Hereditary, it can be chronic and lasts over a lifetime. Psoriasis primarily affects the skin on the body and is often symmetrical, which means it occurs simultaneously on both sides of the body in the same place. It often affects the elbows, the knees, and other extremities. Treatments used to control psoriasis include steroid creams, antihistamines, light therapy, oral medications are also being used to treat chronic cases. Chemical Peels can be very beneficial in the treatment of psoriasis.
